Racist raid in Macerata: six African people injured

A man injured six people of African origin in Macerata, shooting from a moving car. The attacker, identified as Luca Traini, was stopped by the Carabinieri after about an hour in Piazza della Vittoria, in front of the Monument to the Fallen. At the time of his arrest, Traini, who has a swastika tattoo on his forehead, was wrapped in a tricolor flag and gave the fascist salute, shouting "Long live Italy."

On the car seat, a pistol, a camouflage suit, and handwritten notes were found. Four of the injured, including one woman, have already been discharged from the hospital, while two men are in more serious condition: one wounded in the leg and the other in the arm, transported to the hospital in Ancona.

Luca Traini, the perpetrator of the attack, is a 37-year-old man (born in 1989) originally from Tolentino and, according to reports, was a former candidate for the Northern League. At the time of the incident, he had no prior criminal record. The act occurred this morning around 11 a.m., when Traini began shooting from his car at African people on the streets of Macerata.

After the shooting, he voluntarily headed to the city's Monument to the Fallen, a symbolic location, where he stopped with his car before being reached by law enforcement. He admitted to being the perpetrator of what he called a "crazy" act. The political and social context in which such extreme actions, often linked to far-right and racist ideologies, develop remains a highly topical and debated issue in the country.
