Yellow of Pietracatella, New Hearing for Professor Friend of Gianni Di Vita

The investigation into the double murder by ricin poisoning of Antonella Di Ielsi and her fifteen-year-old daughter Sara Di Vita in Pietracatella (Campobasso) does not stop over the weekend. This morning, Sunday, September 13th, the mathematics professor, a friend of Gianni Di Vita, the husband and father of the victims, returned to the offices of the Mobile Squad in Campobasso.

The woman was questioned as a person informed about the facts for almost four hours, from 8 AM until just before noon. This is a new summons less than a month after the lengthy confrontation on August 20th, when the professor and Di Vita were heard simultaneously for about six hours in front of Larino prosecutor Elvira Antonelli and the head of the Mobile Squad, Marco Graziano. That confrontation was based on discrepancies in the statements given to investigators.

The teacher is not the only person who has returned before the investigators. On Saturday afternoon, another cousin of former mayor Gianni Di Vita was questioned at length, while on Friday, Laura Di Vita, Gianni's cousin, was summoned again for about three hours. Other summonses are expected in the coming days, in an investigation that is proceeding by verifying conflicting accounts of circumstances deemed important.

The so-called 'Pietracatella yellow' case originates from the tragic deaths of 47-year-old Antonella Di Ielsi and her 15-year-old daughter Sara Di Vita, which occurred due to ricin poisoning. Ricin is a potent natural toxin extracted from castor beans, lethal even in very small quantities. The two women were found dead in their home in Pietracatella, a small town in Molise.

The first suspect under investigation is Gianni Di Vita, 52, Antonella's husband and Sara's father, as well as the former mayor of the town. The investigation, coordinated by Larino prosecutor Elvira Antonelli and conducted by the Campobasso Mobile Squad led by Marco Graziano, has focused on him from the beginning. A crucial development occurred on August 20th, when Di Vita was subjected to a confrontation with his friend, a math teacher, after new scientific tests conducted by the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin had also ruled out any prior exposure to ricin on his part.

The investigation has been proceeding for weeks, attempting to reconstruct the crime's dynamics, the possible motive, and the origin of the toxin. The continuous hearings of family members and acquaintances, such as Di Vita's cousins and the teacher friend, indicate that investigators are working to clarify contradictions and gather decisive evidence, in a case that has shaken the small Molise community.
