Tripartite patrol activated: Pakistani and Turkish troops deploy in Saudi Arabia.

Tripartite patrol activated: Pakistani and Turkish troops deploy in Saudi Arabia.
Following an emergency meeting in Riyadh, the defensive pact signed in August is activated for the first time. The goal is to counter the attacks by the Houthis.
The news

The context

The conflict in Yemen, a civil war that began in 2014, pits the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels against the internationally recognized government, supported by a coalition led by Saudi Arabia. The Houthis have controlled much of northern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, for over a decade. The war has escalated dramatically in recent weeks, becoming the most active front of the broader Middle Eastern conflict, with over 184,000 displaced people.

The situation deteriorated further last month when the Houthis seized large stretches of the Red Sea coast, including the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a vital passage for global maritime traffic. Since then, the Houthis have intensified missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia, repeatedly striking critical oil infrastructure. In response to this growing threat to its security and energy exports, Saudi Arabia signed a mutual defense pact with Pakistan and Turkey in August, which is now being activated for the first time.
