Doctor Arrested for Sexual Violence Against Patient After Final Conviction

A 63-year-old doctor was arrested in Pisa following a final sentence of one year and eight months for sexually assaulting a young patient. The incident dates back to 2021, when the man, during a visit for severe abdominal pain, kissed the woman's abdomen while she was on the examination table in his office. The young woman, frightened, fled and immediately reported the incident to the police headquarters along with her father, who had accompanied her.

The investigation was conducted by the specialized section for combating gender-based violence of the Pisa flying squad, coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office. The trial concluded with an abbreviated procedure in 2023, and the conviction became final. The man, already known to law enforcement, was transferred to the Don Bosco district prison in Pisa. The local health authority and the medical board are awaiting the official documents to initiate disciplinary measures.

The case began in 2021 when a young woman went to the doctor's office on the Tuscan coast due to severe abdominal pain. Accompanied by her father, who waited outside, she was alone with the professional during the examination. According to the judicial reconstruction, the doctor took advantage of the situation and committed the act of violence. The victim reacted immediately, fleeing and reporting the incident.

The investigation started from the young woman's testimony and was assigned to a specialized unit of the flying squad in Pisa, created specifically to combat gender-based violence. The judicial process, which lasted years, went through the trial and the abbreviated procedure in 2023, up to the final conviction that allowed for the execution of the sentence. The arrest only occurs now because Italian law stipulates that a convicted person can be imprisoned only after the sentence has become final, meaning when no further appeals are possible. The doctor is registered with the medical board of Arezzo, not Pisa, complicating the disciplinary picture.
