Moana (Live-Action)

The live-action "Moana," released internationally as "Oceania," arrives in theaters in August 2026, directed by Thomas Kail. The film, a Walt Disney Pictures production, faithfully retells the story of the 2016 animated original, with young Catherine Lagaʻaia in the role of Moana and Dwayne Johnson returning to play the demigod Maui. Reviews agree that, despite the superfluousness of a remake only ten years later, the film works as an enjoyable family-friendly product, thanks to the chemistry between the leads and respect for the spirit of the original work, although it loses some of the visual magic and at times appears too literal in its transition to live-action.
