American Hostage

"American Hostage" brings to the small screen a true story from 1977: the 63 hours during which Tony Kiritsis held broker Dick Hall hostage, choosing radio journalist Fred Heckman as his sole interlocutor. The series, an MGM+ production created by showrunner Shawn Ryan, unfolds across eight episodes and features a top-tier cast with Jon Hamm as the journalist and Giovanni Ribisi as the kidnapper. The thriller explores the fine line between information and spectacle, questioning what happens when a crisis transforms into a media event followed live by the public.

Despite some criticism regarding an occasionally uneven narrative development, the lead performances and the strangely timely theme of the public construction of a narrative make it an intriguing prospect for 2026.
