Tatsuki Fujimoto, the celebrated author of the cult manga Chainsaw Man, has expressed enthusiastic praise for the new anime film 'We Are Aliens.' The creator, one of the most popular figures in modern Shonen Jump, stated he felt "envious" from his very first look at the film during a preview.
'We Are Aliens' is the first feature-length animated film from the studio NOTHING NEW, a label founded in 2022 with the mission of not stifling talent. The film, directed by Kohei Kadowaki, tells the story of two boys in a rural town during the Heisei era, exploring themes of ordinariness and specialness through a realistic, painterly artistic style.
Fujimoto, also known for the adolescent drama 'Look Back,' met director Kadowaki after the screening, leaving the director stunned by the intensity of the compliments he received. The film, which debuted at the Cannes Festival and Annecy, will begin its theatrical release in Japan on September 25, 2026, while an international release date has not yet been announced.
