The book combines elements of historical family drama, survival horror, and the tension of a haunted house. The sections set in Old Hollywood shine for their narrative confidence, while the modern plot alternates moments of suspense with sequences rich in survivalist details. Despite some visible narrative seams, the novel remains a powerful exploration of Black horror built on the fundamental question: what is the true cost of a wish granted?
