The highly anticipated remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 aims for a smooth 60 frames per second gameplay experience in native 1080p resolution. This is revealed by a preliminary technical analysis from Digital Foundry, which reports a significant improvement over previous open-world installments in the series, which were limited to 30 fps on the original console.
Despite hardware optimization ensuring a stable frame rate, the title forgoes the use of Nvidia's AI upscaling technology, DLSS. According to analysts, this choice results in visual artifacts such as overly sharp edges, annoying shimmering on vegetation, and unnatural reflections on character models during dialogue sequences.
The game uses a proprietary graphics engine, likely developed in-house or in collaboration with Monolith Soft, and not Unreal Engine 5 as some had speculated. While menus are rendered at 1440p, the absence of AI image reconstruction could compromise the final rendering of the vast world of Hyrule, leaving room for improvements before the scheduled release date of November 5th.
