Emily St. John Mandel is working on a television adaptation of her new novel 'Exit Party'. In an interview given on the eve of the book's American release, the author confirmed she is writing the pilot for the series, which will be produced in live-action.
The television project, acquired by LAIKA after a competition for the rights, will potentially see Mandel as co-showrunner alongside Jac Schaeffer. The series is currently in development, and a platform, cast, or production date have not yet been announced.
'Exit Party', published on September 15, 2026 by Knopf, was selected as the #1 Indie Next pick for September by independent booksellers. Early reviews, including a starred review from Kirkus calling it her strongest novel since 'Station Eleven', are very positive.
The book, which explores parallel timelines and political themes of chaos and totalitarianism, expands the so-called 'Mandelverse', the interconnected narrative universe that links the author's works. Mandel also revealed she is working on an adaptation of 'Last Night in Montreal'.
