The Harry Potter phenomenon continues to renew itself. While awaiting the TV series arriving on HBO in December, a new illustrated edition of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," the sixth chapter of the saga, is hitting bookstores.
Australian artist Levi Pinfold, a multi-award winner, has taken the place of Jim Kay for this edition. His style introduces a decidedly darker tone compared to the previous ones, with fine-line drawings and a strategic, sparing use of color. The characters often hide in shadowy corners.
The overall effect is that of a story shrouded in mystery and melancholy, far from the softer tones of the original covers. This perfectly reflects the book's plot, with the Ministry of Magic in turmoil, Voldemort attacking both the magical and Muggle worlds, and an impending war.
Pinfold's illustrations are integrated into the text, with occasional full double-page spreads. The pages themselves are not white but feature backgrounds and text in different colors. A premium volume, designed for collectors and devoted fans.
