Following the success of 'Trust,' winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Hernán Díaz returns with a new novel titled 'Ply.' The work, announced in October 2026, immerses itself in a post-apocalyptic and rewilded future, following the story of a young woman who dedicates herself to stealing electricity to power clandestine punk concerts.
The novel presents itself as a deep exploration of themes such as identity, intimacy, and the construction of the self in a radically changed world. Díaz, interviewed by NPR, explained how the book was born precisely to investigate what we become after the end of the world as we know it.
'Ply' promises to unite philosophical reflection with a narrative rich in imagination, set in a dystopian yet vibrant scenario of rebellious energy. The protagonist, with her acts of resistance through music, embodies a search for authenticity and connection in a desolate landscape.
