Muramasa: Revenant Blades, the long-awaited remake arrives in 2027
Vanillaware announces the return of the cult action-RPG Muramasa: The Demon Blade. A 4K remake with new characters, combat systems, and relaxing activities.

Vanillaware and Marvelous Entertainment have unveiled Muramasa: Revenant Blades, the 4K remake of the acclaimed action-RPG Muramasa: The Demon Blade. The long-awaited return is set for February 4, 2027, on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and, for the first time for Vanillaware, on Windows PC.

Originally released on the Wii in 2009, the game is a 2D side-scrolling action-RPG that blends Metroidvania-style exploration with frenetic sword combat. Players explore Edo-period Japan as one of the two original protagonists, Momohime and Kisuke, facing ninjas, samurai, and yokai in environments inspired by the era's art.

Beyond the completely renewed graphics, Revenant Blades introduces new combat systems and weapons. Joining the two protagonists are four other playable characters (Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru, and Rajaki), whose stories are now available from the start. The game has also been re-localized, featuring English voice acting.

Among the new features are a training mode to master techniques, relaxing activities like fishing and hot springs, and an art gallery. Physical editions will be available for PS5, Switch, and Switch 2, along with a Limited Edition containing an artbook, soundtrack CD, and a byōbu folding screen with Vanillaware artwork.
