After a plane crash, ex-special forces soldier James Belmont and his military dog must survive the harsh Alaskan wilderness, relying on each other against extreme cold, predators, and their own inner demons.
"Heart of the Beast" is a 2026 survival film directed by David Ayer and starring a strikingly fit Brad Pitt as James, a former special forces sergeant. The plot, classic for the genre, follows the man and his combat dog, the German shepherd Odin, forced into a fight for survival in the wild landscapes of Alaska after a plane crash. Distributed by Paramount Pictures, the film builds its strength on the visceral bond and shared trauma between the two protagonists, alternating sequences of pure tension with moments of introspection.
Despite effective direction and a tight pace, some overly rhetorical notes and a finale that indulges in sentimentality divided critics, though the result is often described as visceral and moving entertainment, perfect for animal lovers and traditional action cinema fans.
