Wonka's The Golden Ticket, the Netflix reality competition released in September 2026, transports 24 contestants in pairs into the iconic settings of the Chocolate Factory for a series of physical, mental, and moral challenges, with a million-dollar prize at stake. Produced by Eureka Productions, the show is nonetheless panned by critics for its chaotic structure and trivial challenges, which fall into genre clichรฉs without developing a coherent game design or allowing the participants' personalities to emerge, reducing them to exaggerated and insincere reactions. The most discussed element is the use of artificial intelligence to recreate the voice of Gene Wilder, the historic interpreter of Willy Wonkaโa choice authorized by his heirs but one that divided the audience, reigniting the ethical debate.
Despite production efforts in set design and a cameo by original Oompa Loompa actor Rusty Goffe, the show feels like a wasted opportunity, more interested in exploiting the recognizable brand of Roald Dahl than in capturing the moral spirit of his story.
